Why Passion is Non Negotiable

February 24, 20261 min read

The word passion originates from the Latin passio — meaning “to suffer” or “to endure,” derived from patior (“I suffer”).

Interesting, isn’t it?

Today, when we talk about passion, we usually mean excitement, enthusiasm, or deep love for what we do. But historically, passion wasn’t about pleasure — it was about perseverance.

True passion isn’t just loving something when it’s easy, it’s staying committed when it’s difficult. Enduring setbacks, criticism, long hours, and uncertainty.

It’s choosing to endure when suffering burns.

In a professional world that often glorifies quick wins and constant motivation, it’s worth remembering:

Passion is love and intensity, fulled by endurance.

Projects you stay up late refining. Skills you practice when no one is watching. Goals you pursue despite obstacles. That’s passion in it's purest form.

So the real question isn’t:
“What am I excited about today?”

It’s:
“What do I love so deeply I’m willing to suffer for?”

That's passion.
