The fish I wasn't meant to catch

Physically spent after days of walking rivers in the New Zealand back country. That afternoon the two boys wanted to keep fishing, so I went along purely to guide and support them.

I rigged up my rod just in case they got tangled and needed to reload and keep moving. No waders. Just thongs on. Walked the long bush trails to river and then sat on a rock and watched...

They weren’t getting any action, so I had a casual flick...

Bang!

Monster.

Next cast.

Another monster.

Both landed after epic battles. We all then sat on the bank laughing at how ridiculous and manic that few minutes was.

The boys caught nothing that afternoon... and that ended up being my best session of the whole trip.

👉 It's funny how when you remove expectation and come place of service you create a space for the magic to happen.
